California’s New Fertility Law (SB 729)
Beginning July 1, 2025, many California health plans will be required to cover fertility treatment—including IVF, diagnostic services, and fertility medications. This new law expands access to care for individuals, couples, and families seeking support on their fertility journey.
When Coverage Starts
Effective Date: July 1, 2025 (for new or renewed fully insured plans)
Large Employers (101+ employees): Full fertility coverage is required
Small Employers (1–100 employees): Must offer at least one plan with coverage
Exempt: Self-funded plans, Medi-Cal, Medicare, religious employers
